19 September 2007 China 'to have fastest growing air-travel market'
It has been predicted that China will need 3,400 new planes in the next 20 years in order to cope with the air-travel market.
According to Forbes, China's "booming" economy has led Boeing to raise its estimate for the country's aircraft demand.
The increase of 14 per cent will see the aircraft company invest a total $340 billion in the manufacturing of the commercial planes during the next 20 years.
"China domestic frequencies have increased more than sixteen-fold since 1990 while airplane sizes have remained about the same," said Randy Tinseth vice president of marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
He added that projected average growth for the domestic market in China is almost nine per cent and that the current trend of more frequencies and nonstop flights should continue to accommodate the growth.
Mr Tinseth continued that this would be done via a focus on single-aisle airplanes like the Boeing 737, which is both efficient and has low operating costs.
