19 November 2007 Christmas holidaymakers 'leave it late' for better deals
People planning on heading overseas for Christmas holidays tend to leave booking until late on in order to bag the best deals, it has been revealed.
According to a spokesperson for Thomson Fly, Christmas is a popular time for people to travel abroad because parents and children have a set amount of time off work making it "convenient" to venture overseas during this period.
She added that holidaymakers did not tend to book in advance for these trips, instead leaving bookings until later on in general.
"We find the trend is that people have been going for more late bookings. You can say that generally; it does not even matter what period of the year it is. There is still quite a bit of availability so people do leave it if they can to get a better deal," she continued.
Meanwhile, travelbite.co.uk reports that a poll of 1,000 workers by Lastminute.com revealed that 71 per cent have over half their annual holiday entitlement still to use before the end of the year, leading to predictions of increased Christmas holidays.
