12 March 2007 Climate 'attracts holidaymakers to Barbados'
The "palmed-fringed sweeping beaches" and hot sun are two of the main reasons Barbados in the Caribbean has become such a popular tourist destination, it is suggested.
Many holidaymakers from the UK are also attracted to the island because of its celebrity visitors, according to the Observer.
The publication also indicates that Barbados' minister of tourism and international transport Noel Lynch thinks the country will become "a premier destination for cruise business" following recent enhancements to its port facilities.
Barbados and the other islands located in the Caribbean are currently putting the finishing touches to preparations for the Cricket World Cup which starts this week.
Fans from around the world, including UK holidaymakers will be descending on the region to cheer on their teams.
In addition to Barbados, countries hosting the competition include Jamaica, Antigua and St Kitts - other traditional holiday destinations in the Caribbean.
