27 September 2007 Cornwall 'to attract German tourists'
A new air-link between Newquay and Dusseldorf could see the Cornish region receive an influx of German tourists when it goes live next year, it has been reported.
According to Travel Mole, German airline Lufthansa is to operate a weekly service between the Rhein-Ruhr region and Newquay as of next summer, in a move that Newquay Cornwall Airport project director Chris Cain describes as "further evidence that Cornwall is not just attractive to the low-cost carriers".
Meanwhile, the travel website asserts that the airport is also considering opening up routes to other UK bases such as the West Midlands, Newcastle and Glasgow.
Additionally, it reports that Newquay Cornwall Airport is also aiming to expand its routes to locations in Spain, Paris and Amsterdam.
"Germany is Cornwall's strongest overseas tourist market ... we are confident this direct link will provide an even greater boost for inbound tourism from Germany," Travel Mole quoted Mr Cain as saying.
