26 September 2007 Costa Del Sol to have its own Eiffel Tower?
The Spanish holiday resort of Costa Del Sol could soon find fame beyond its sunny weather and sandy beaches, according to one publication.
Typically Spanish reports that the Andalucian government - Junta de Andalucia - is on the lookout for an enduring symbol that will reflect the ethos of the region and promote the Costa del Sol across the globe.
According to the publication, this type of symbol would be synonymous with the Costa and would make both itself and Malaga instantly recognisable to the world.
As such, it draws a comparison between the Eiffel Tower in France which has become a Parisian icon, noting that such a "permanent architectural symbol would be synonymous with the Costa del Sol".
Meanwhile, the publication reports that according to La Opinion de Malaga, three multinational companies are currently working on a design, which is to be presented to the Junta de Andalucia by the end of the year.
