08 September 2006 Delays get worse for European passengers
European airline passengers experienced an increase in delays for the seventh quarter in succession, it is reported, which may result in passenger irritation in extreme cases of lateness.
According to Association of European Airlines figures, 20.2 per cent of intra-European flights were delayed by over 15 minutes in the second quarter of 2006, up from last year's figure of 18.1 per cent.
The group reported that those flying from Madrid suffered the most delays with 28.7 per cent of those flights being held up, with Paris - Charles de Gaulle, Heathrow, Gatwick and Barcelona all with delay rates of over 25 per cent.
While airlines provide differing amounts and forms of compensation in the event of delays, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) notes that most insurance cover will compensate policy-holders for a delay past a certain time, with larger payouts in the event of cancellation.
The ABI states that the usual limit to such compensation is £200 per person.
