Due to rising petrol prices, which are expected to reach record highs this summer, holidaymakers considering a fly-drive trip in the US are being encouraged to rethink their travel plans.
Spokesman for American travel company, AAA Travel, Ela Alkalaj suggests that in order to keep costs down people should consider leaving their cars behind and take trips to places with good public transport infrastructures, such as New York City or Washington DC, according to American publication, the Standard Speaker.
Another option Ms Alkalaj suggests for those looking to save money, is to look for alternative places which are within a petrol tank's distance of the east coast ports.
"Think about great places, like New Hope and Chestertown in Maryland, on the Eastern Shore, Cape May, New Jersey and the Delaware beaches," she said.
"There are good vacations out there."
