07 December 2005 Dubai gains further tourism recognition
Tourism officials from Dubai have had their efforts recognised by a coveted German tourism award.
Given for outstanding innovative achievements in tourism at a national and international level, the award of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW) was presented to Mr Khalid bin Sulayem, director general of tourism and marketing for Dubai, at the BTW's annual tourism summit in Berlin on Monday.
Accepting the award, Mr Sulayem said: "It validates our hard work and struggle to develop a unique tourism product with commitment to quality and high standards.
"Dubai is making enormous investment to develop its tourism industry and several visionary projects are underway," he added.
Factors such as investments, infrastructure projects and outstanding levels of tourism industry and economic vibrancy all contributed to Dubai being singled out for the award, reports ameinfo.com.
Dubai's choice as a luxury tourist destination was further recognised this month as the country hosted the International Herald Tribune's Modern Luxury 2005 Conference.
