18 December 2007 Elfing around in Lapland
An Elf Academy in Lapland is offering courses in the discipline of Elfing from April 2008, it has been reported.
According to the Daily Mail, the year-long course has already attracted 20 eager students and will teach them how to look after tourists taking husky tours and sleigh rides as well as making sure that children are naught or nice in the build up to Christmas.
A two-and-a-half year Santa course is also available at the university.
"Qualifying as an Elf won't be easy and the students must take a series of exams to pass the course. It's believed there are lots of different types of Elf. For example there are House Elves in every home, so there's a lot to learn," commented Kari Rekild, project manager of the Elf Academy.
Trainee elves will be expected to don face paint, red and green clothing and dye their hair red, and the course is aimed at those looking to make elfing into a permanent career.
Over the Christmas period holidaymakers in Lapland can enjoy skiing, canoeing, snowmobiling and hunting.
