04 March 2008 Environmental issues 'do not deter price-conscious holidaymakers'
The impact of tourism upon nature and the environment is not causing Britons to reconsider their holiday plans, it has been asserted.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, from a consumer perspective, the driving force behind a decision to book a holiday is based on prices.
Research from TNS Online Omnibus entitled "Environmental issues when choosing a holiday" from last year showed that 65 per cent of people would not alter their travel plans in a bid to alleviate their holiday's environmental impact.
"If you ask someone if they are concerned about the environment it is unlikely they will say 'no', [but] from a customers perspective it is price that's driving them," the association's Sean Tipton commented.
He added that, however, the tourism industry is "very concerned" about the damage it does to the environment.
It is an area which the sector is continuously working on, Mr Tipton concluded.
