09 October 2007 Expanded low-cost air travel to France
Budget airline easyJet has announced an expansion to its services in France, with the opening of two new bases at Paris Charles de Gaulle and at Lyon airports.
The new locations will be active as of spring 2008 and easyJet expects that the move will "reinforce" its position as the country's "significant" low-cost airline.
The move by the airline is said to be part of a larger growth strategy over the long term which will see easyJet base 20 planes in the country by 2011.
At this time the company will operate more than 80 routes in and out of the country.
"Today's announcement is just the first step in our major investment that will see us double our presence in France by 2011 as we seek to bring the benefits of easyJet to France's air travellers and its wider society," commented Andy Harrison, chief executive of easyJet.
The budget airline recently opened a new route between Bristol in the UK and Warsaw in Poland.
