07 September 2005 FOS reports rise in travel insurance disputes
As the summer draws to a close, many people will be coming back from their holidays with insurance claims to make after a mishap whilst away.
However, the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is seeing a rise in the number of travel insurance disputes and is urging travellers to be aware of potential problems, according to The Daily Telegraph.
An estimated five per cent of travel insurance policyholders need to make a claim after being overseas, but problems with claims are rising.
The FOS dealt with 1,525 claim disputes last year, a five per cent rise from the year before.
Travellers are being urged to make sure they read all the documents of their policy to know what they are covered for.
In addition, if you are the victim of a theft whilst away, it is important to report the incident to the police as soon as possible.
