17 May 2006 False holiday economy
Holidaymakers looking to get away on a cheap break this summer should not assume they can save money by not taking out the necessary cover, independent financial data collection company, Defaqto is warning.
People may assume that they will save themselves some money by not taking out a travel protection policy but they could end up spending a whole lot more if they are caught up in an accident which requires emergency medical treatment or even if luggage is lost or a flight cancelled.
"You book a cheap flight online and leave out the insurance thinking you have saved yourself a lot of money, "Brian Brown, Associate Director, Defaqto commented.
"A lot of people just don't think of it," Mr Brown added. "Some people are even reluctant to spend eight pounds, that's three drinks on holiday."
Earlier this week Mr Brown commented that, due to the increase in demand, insurance premiums are at historically low levels and therefore there is no reason for holidaymakers to travel without any cover.
