05 March 2008 Ferry travel 'gets boost'
Ferry travel is one way in which to reach the traditional destination for holidays of France and more holidaymakers have been utilising this method of transport of late, it has been suggested.
According to figures released by the Passenger Shipping Association's Sail and Drive campaign there was a showed a 3.8 per cent increase in the number of cars on passenger ferries last year, TravelMole reports.
Meanwhile, almost 43 million passenger ferry journeys were taken from British ports to the continent last year, representing an increase of 419,000.
"I believe we're seeing increasing numbers of people turning away from the misery of airports," the Passenger Shipping Association’s director Bill Gibbons commented.
He noted that this "misery" included "chaos", strike threats, lost luggage and "miserly" charges made by airlines.
The Port of Dover recently reported that ferry travel is "regaining" popularity.
