14 December 2007 Fifth of Brits to travel this Christmas
A total of one in five Britons are expected to travel over the Christmas period this year, it has been revealed.
According to Halifax, 19 per cent of Brits will leave their homes to celebrate Christmas elsewhere in the British Isles and overseas this yuletide.
One in ten UK homeowners intend to travel on holiday for more than two weeks over the festive period.
"At Christmas it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of the season and forget about home security. People can take practical measures to deter burglars and protect their homes while they are away by keeping expensive Christmas presents out of view," advised Marty Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance.
Research shows that of those travelling this Christmas 37 per cent intend to visit relatives while four per cent will holiday in the UK and three per cent will head off on ski or winter sun holidays.
Abbey recently revealed that 2.2 million Brits will travel abroad to do their Christmas shopping this month.
