Severe rainstorms over the weekend have caused numerous casualties and considerable damage from floods and landslides in Fuijan province, in the south-east of China.
According to the official news agency Xinhua, in the last three days, Nanping City has been deluged by 8.12 inches of rainfall.
The floods have affected more than 570,000 people, causing the destruction of 1,760 homes and inflicting serious damage to a further 3,994 homes.
Two people were killed in the floods, with landslides resulting in five more fatalities.
According to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters, the Fuijan province has suffered direct economic losses of an estimated 439.2 million yuan (£29.2 million).
Forecasters have advised that areas of north-east China could also be subjected to heavy rainstorms, and that similar floods and landslides are likely.
Meanwhile, a ferryboat on the Guijiang River in Hezhou City capsized in floodwaters, leading to the rescue of twenty-six people, although one person is still missing.
