17 July 2007 Foreign currency cash machines 'a good development'
The recent launch of cash machines in the UK offering consumers foreign currency has been described as a positive development for travellers, with it forecast that the service is likely to become more prevalent in the future.
Link, the national cash machine interchange network in the UK, claims that these new cash machines - four of which are currently installed in branches of Tesco - are not being used by immediate travellers.
Graham Mott, head of planning and development at Link, said: "The theory is at the moment that, rather than the person waiting until they get to the airport to get their foreign currency - as many people do, they'll get their foreign currency beforehand, in the weeks leading up to the holiday."
He added that for this reason, putting these machines on high streets and in supermarket branches would be prudent, as these are areas often visited by consumers throughout the course of the week.
Mr Mott also reported that the network has received a positive impression of the cash machines from consumers, who appreciate the simplicity of the system.
Earlier this month, Tesco Personal Finance announced that it would be extending the trial of its Euro ATMs from four machines to 20 in time for the summer holidays.
