31 October 2007 France 'first choice for skiers'
France is the most popular destination for skiers, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Abta public relations officer Frances Tuke said that the continental country is the pick of the favoured European destinations when it comes to holidaymakers choosing a ski resort.
"Europe is definitely the most popular, with France being number one and Austria number two. Austria used to be the favourite destination but that has changed now," Mr Tuke said.
He cited the "sheer scale" of the French ski resorts as well as their convenience as reasons that the country now leads the way when it comes to attracting British tourists.
Mr Tuke added that it is easy for Brits to fly to Geneva, a useful access point for resorts in the French Alps.
A ski industry report on the 2006-07 ski season, published by Crystal, indicated that the total ski market grew by three per cent during this period.
