27 July 2005 Gappers reminded of need for travel insurance
Students who are thinking of taking a gap year and travelling the world are being urged to remember their travel cover before they jet off.
American Express has warned students that travel cover needs are very different for a round-the-world trip than compared to the insurance required for the average two-week summer break.
Among the advice given is to check that the countries you want to visit are covered and to ensure the cover is for extended periods.
"Not surprisingly many of our gap year policies are bought by parents - who are more experienced about what can happen, and what sort of help might be needed should disaster strike, "commented Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express.
According to the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), some 137,000 students decided to delay taking up their place at university in order to go travelling.
