20 July 2006 German holiday homes top poll
World Cup demand has sent Germany top of the poll as a destination for holiday home rentals in the first half of 2006.
New research from website Holiday Rentals states enquiries for German rentals has increased rapidly since the football tournament.
Dubai came second in the list of top destinations, with Tenarife remaining popular in the poll as well, boasting a 20 per cent rise in the average number of enquiries.
The sales director of Ross McGowan told Fly2let: "The fact that Germany has been a top choice with renters is perhaps not surprising, given the World Cup. However what is remarkable is the increase in properties; 38 per cent since last year.
"Thanks to the availability of relatively cheap property, decreasing unemployment and growing interest from tourists, canny investors are realising Germany could be the next hot property market in Europe."
Average property enquiries rose by around twice during June, with an 18.2 per cent rise in enquiries per month when compared to 2005.
Recently, lastminute.com reported that travellers are booking holiday packages online, including flights and hotels as means to "drown their World Cup sorrows".
In the 48 hours after England's defeat, Majorca and Ibiza ranked highliy as holiday destinations.
