17 March 2008 Ghana to be Easter holiday destination?
Ghana may well become an emerging destination in terms of being an Easter holiday destination after it declared the weekend as an official public holiday.
According to Myjoyonline.com, the Ghanaian ministry of the interior recently declared Friday March 21st and Monday March 24th as public holidays.
It reports that the public have been asked to observe the days as public holidays throughout Ghana.
A ministry statement from Kwamena Bartels decreed that the holidays were in respect of the Christian celebrations of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
According to the bible, Good Friday, also known as Holy Friday, is the Friday before Easter Sunday and commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus at Calvary.
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and in modern times is often accompanied by the exchanging of chocolate Easter eggs, while some celebrants roll painted eggs down hills.
