13 February 2008 Green holidays to be had on the train
Travelling by train, specifically the InterRail, is a popular way in which to explore Europe and is also eco-friendly, it has been claimed.
According to STA Travel, travelling through Europe by train provides holidaymakers with "totally flexible green travel".
A spokesperson for the company added that InterRailing allows holidaymakers to visit up to 30 countries in Europe in a green way.
"With frequent, reliable, comfortable services straight to the heart of your destination it's a fantastic way to travel," she added.
Such travel can be cheaper than travelling by plane and as such could attract young travellers taking gap years and backpacking holidays.
According to Gapyear.com, it is estimated that 230,000 18 to 24 year-olds set off on a big trip each year.
