22 January 2008 Growth predicted for world travel
World travel leaders have predicted continued growth for tourism and travel in 2008, it has been announced.
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the ongoing global credit crunch will have a "minimal" impact on the travel tourism sector.
Meanwhile, international tourism arrivals increased in 2007 by almost six per cent according to United Nations World Tourism Organisation figures to almost 900 million tourists.
"Tourism growth has been particularly rapid in developing countries with the fastest average growth in tourism arrivals in the Middle East region," WTTC president Jean-Claude Baumgarten stated.
He added that such countries were recognising the development potential of travel and tourism and seeing a rapid economic growth.
Mr Baumgarten also noted that Dubai represents a nation that has "truly embraced" travel and tourism as a channel for economic growth.
The WTTC is an international organisation of travel industry executives whose aim is to promote travel and tourism on a global scale.
