29 May 2007 'Guaranteed sun' sees Brits flee on bank holiday
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) last week forecast that approximately 1.9 million Britons would head over the bank holiday weekend in search of sunny weather.
Abta notes that windy and rainy weather in the UK has contributed to the numbers travelling overseas, as has the coinciding half-term break for primary and secondary schools.
The association reports that the top city break destinations for these travellers include perennial favourites Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris, Prague and Rome.
Justin Fleming, president of Abta, said: "May is one of the nicest times of year to travel with cheaper prices and bearable temperatures.
He added that bank holidays can see travel destinations become extremely busy and urged holidaymakers to check any news for their intended holiday spot.
