07 January 2008 'H-day' sees holiday booking boost
Monday January 7th is expected to be the busiest day of the year for holiday bookings in Britain, according to predictions.
Known as Holiday Day (H-Day), the Identity and Passport Office (IPS) and the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) claim that today will be the see as many as half a million customers book summer holidays.
As travellers attempt to beat the winter blues and the post-Christmas slump by booking summer breaks, travel agents are expecting to report record business today.
Mark Tanzer, ABTA chief executive, commented: "Booking a holiday is a great way of beating the post-Christmas blues which is why we find January to be such a busy time for our travel agents. But before booking, customers should ensure their passport is valid."
The annual H-Day coincides with the first day that most people return to work for a full week after their Christmas break, with millions using work computer access to start searching for holidays to chase off winter blues.
Holidaymakers are advised to ensure that their passports are up to date and they have valid insurance before setting off on their holidays. Those planning several trips this year could benefit from annual travel insurance or multi-trip travel insurance, rather than individual policies.
