16 February 2006 Heavy rains leave 19 dead in Bolivia
At least 19 people have died after heavy rains hit the South American country of Bolivia.
Dozens more people have been injured in the ensuing mudslides and flooding, while a total of 100,000 people have been affected by the rains across the country.
Eva Morales, Bolivia's new president, has appealed to the international community for aid after the week-long rains continued to cause damage to the county.
So far the country has received over £576,000 in direct aid from a number of international bodies and governments and a further £250 million has been pledged.
Japan, the US, Chile, Venezuela and Cuba have sent in humanitarian aid including medicines, temporary shelter and drinking water.
Weather forecasters in Bolivia have predicted that the country will be hit by further heavy rain over the next few days.
