A new type of holiday is available, targeted at families who wish to learn about other cultures and help out during their travels.
Volunteering holidays, offered by Hands Up Holidays, offers families the opportunity of seeing the sights of a country while also undertaking a "meaningful" role.
Such roles can involve helping with environmental projects and teaching as well as repair and maintenance work in orphanages in destinations like Morocco, Serbia and Thailand as well as Australia, New Zealand, India, Kenya and Ecuador and the Galapagos.
"This experience is enriched by the time spent interacting with the local people and getting a unique first-hand understanding of the culture and traditions of the country they are visiting," Hands Up Holidays claims.
Those on a volunteering holiday can help build school rooms in Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains, help out in a Bangkok orphanage, protect sea turtles in the Great Barrier Reef or assist fishermen clean up beaches in Ecuador and the Galapagos.
