06 February 2008 Holidaying Brits should 'turn air con off'
Britons looking to reduce their carbon footprint while on holiday can do so by making small adjustments to their actions, it has been claimed.
According to The Travel Foundation, there are a number of small tips that can make a big difference in terms of the part tourism plays in climate change and global warming.
David Weston, spokesperson for The Travel Foundation, said that switching air conditioning off while not in the hotel room can help.
"Tips like this are small within themselves, but if everybody does them it adds up enormously with helping to reduce wastage and the carbon footprint of tourism in general," he noted.
Another piece of advice issued included removing external and unnecessary wrapping and packaging from goods at home in the UK rather than when overseas, as recycling facilities may not be as readily available on holiday.
An independent UK charity, The Travel Foundation lists its aims as helping tourism impact positively on "places we love to visit".
