21 January 2008 Holidaymakers becoming more adventurous, says expert
Traditional destinations may always be popular but holidaymakers are becoming more adventurous, an expert in the sector has claimed.
Claire Lilley, head of research at the Holiday Which? consumer guide, discussed the new trend in people looking not just for a getaway, but for an actual experience too.
Because more holidays are taken every year, more travellers want to take part in adventurous activities such as canoeing and horse riding, she added.
"They don't always just want to lie on a beach. They're looking for things like bungee jumping and skydiving
people are looking for experiences as part of their holiday."
In addition to discussing the shift in holiday trends, Ms Lilley also said that eastern European destinations are currently "booming" and more people are visiting Bulgaria and Turkey than in previous years.
Holiday Which? magazine gives unbiased advice to would-be travellers and is published four times annually.
