02 July 2007 Holidaymakers 'can opt for low-cost travel cover'
The old adage informing consumers that they get what they pay for does not always hold, it has been claimed, with low-cost travel protection offering comparable levels of cover to that provided by more expensive larger brands.
Financial services comparison firm moneysupermarket.com notes that the level of cover offered by cheaper, smaller brands can even be higher than that available through a big name.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at the company, said: "Little-known travel insurers provide good levels of cover at a lower cost compared with the big brands.
"It's encouraging for travellers to know there are low-cost options on the market providing high levels of cover for their needs."
He advised consumers to compare travel insurance policies on a like-for-like basis and recommended opting for a cheaper policy if it provides adequate protection.
In May 2007, Insurancewide.com urged consumers to inform their provider of any pre-existing medical conditions when purchasing their policy.
