24 April 2007 Holidaymakers 'can't cope with problems abroad'
Over half of UK holidaymakers have difficulties in dealing with problems that occur when abroad, it has been claimed, while there has also been an increase in such incidents taking place overseas.
Fischer's Travel SOS, a publisher of critical contact guides for a number of worldwide destinations, reports that 60 per cent of Britons do not have the means or available contact details to deal with problems that arise when on holiday.
The company reports that increasing numbers of travellers are looking to bring legal action against airlines and travel agencies each year in such situations.
Julian Fischer, publisher of the survey, said: "The results have showed a marked rise [in] incidents, but more worryingly travellers are increasingly finding themselves stranded and unable to resolve their dilemma simply for lack of information."
He added that difficulties including an inability to speak the local language can exacerbate problem situations abroad.
