26 October 2007 Holidaymakers 'could be the reason for their own delayed flight'
Passengers may be the cause of their own delayed flight, it has been revealed.
According to a spokesperson for British Airways, there are a multitude of factors behind delays at airports - however, holidaymakers could be behind the delays in some cases.
However, he added that it was impossible to give a specific reason for a delay.
General airline practice after a passenger whose luggage is onboard a plane fails to board it is to put out calls for the traveller before removing their baggage off the aircraft if they fail to reappear, which may cause delays.
"There really are a multitude of reasons why aircrafts are delayed. It's not really possible to give any specific reason beyond the endless possibilities about why that happens," the spokesperson continued.
The Civil Aviation Authority reported that 68 per cent of scheduled airlines operated on time, which means they ran between early and 15 minutes late at ten monitored UK airports, between April and June this year.
