28 February 2007 Holidaymakers offered 'greener way to travel'
Travellers planning on heading abroad who are concerned about the impact of their trip on the environment have been offered an opportunity to take a more environmentally friendly approach to their holidays.
Camping trip provider Eurocamp is giving its customers the ability to travel to its sites by train, while also promoting carbon-offsetting websites for those looking to lower the impact of their holiday further.
Deborah Beckett, managing director of the firm, said: "This is all about offering holidaymakers the choice of a more environmentally friendly way to travel.
"With excellent links across Europe, public transport such as trains can actually be a fast and less stressful way of travelling."
She added that Eurocamp aimed at promoting and encouraging sustainability as a key feature of its holidays, noting that a number of its camping areas in France had received the Green Key Diploma award for environmental management.
Last month, Halifax reported that one in ten Britons are considering offsetting the carbon emissions from their holidays financially, while a further ten per cent intend on reducing their air miles to lower their trip's environmental impact.
