18 November 2006 Holidaymakers 'should be more choosy' over travel insurance
Holidaymakers are booking their travel cover at the last moment without paying attention to the content of the policy or shopping around for the best price, it has been claimed.
Insurancewide.com has asserted that it is not difficult to find cheaper travel cover, but that that people purchasing their insurance quickly close to their travel date and those relying on cover from credit card or bank account packages may not necessarily be protected for all their activities before.
James Harrison, chief executive officer of Insurancewide.com, said: "Too many holidaymakers are buying travel cover as a last minute thought without knowing what cover they actually need and without paying attention to what's excluded from the policy."
He added that travel agents sometimes charge excessive prices for inadequate policies and urged holidaymakers to compare policies on a "like-for-like" basis based on the level of cover offered and any exclusions enforced.
Earlier this year, AA Financial Services advised travellers unsure about their level of cover to get into contact with their travel insurance provider.
