30 July 2007 Holidaymakers should book Christmas flights 'well in advance'
Britons planning on taking a Christmas break abroad have been advised to book their travels well in advance to ensure they can get the holiday they're after.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) has claimed that with Christmas being a peak travel period - and with less free time on offer than in the summer, travellers should set their holiday plans sooner rather than later.
Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the association, said: "It gets very, very busy and people book a long time in advance, because people know when they are going away during that time."
She added that holidaymakers who don't book their flights until the last minute run the risk of discovering that there are no holidays available that they may want.
Last summer, Sainsbury's Bank reported that 10.7 million Britons were looking to book a last minute summer holiday, with the firm urging those that do not to neglect the essential purchase of travel insurance as they rush to arrange their trip.
