01 May 2007 Holidaymakers 'should check small print on travel insurance'
Britons purchasing travel insurance before they head abroad should take the time to carefully check the details of their policy to ensure that they are adequately covered before they go overseas.
Research from consumer watchdog Which? has explored the markets for critical illness, payment protection and travel insurance and found that the small print must sometimes be read carefully to guarantee a sufficient level of protection.
The firm notes that there can often be time limits on reporting stolen or lost items, in addition to exclusions for existing health conditions.
Malcolm Coles, editor of Which?, said: "Check the small print carefully and make sure you understand what is and isn't included before you buy."
In October 2006, AA Financial Services warned that some travel agents do not inform holidaymakers of the need to declare pre-existing medical conditions when purchasing cover.
