30 August 2007 Holidaymakers 'should purchase travel insurance with their trip'
Holidaymakers are being urged to take out travel insurance upon booking their trip.
According to Post Office head of travel John Howells, the few extra minutes required could save people thousands of pounds.
Figures from the Post Office Travel Services claim that 47 per cent of people admitted to travelling abroad without any insurance, while 46 per cent of respondents considered it a waste of money.
Mr Howells warned holidaymakers that insurance cover taken out on the day of travel will not provide any cover should the holiday be cancelled.
"It's essential to take out insurance the moment you book your holiday ... those few extra minutes could save you lots of misery," he added.
A recent study by Norwich Union revealed that 42 per cent of British holidaymakers believe that they would be most likely to claim for lost, stolen or damaged baggage, when the biggest source of travel claims is in fact medical emergencies.
