02 November 2006 Holidaymakers urged to consider spending money
Britons exchanging money for their holiday spending are being advised to carefully examine the commission they pay when purchasing foreign currency.
HSBC has announced that it is offering over 70 foreign currencies without commission, available by next day delivery to either a local bank branch or home address.
It claims that holidaymakers can get a "good deal" with the bank due to its "competitive rates".
John Nicholson, head of travel money at HSBC, said: "If you're travelling abroad this winter to catch some sun, think carefully about spending money."
He added that as well as differing exchange rates, commission charges ranged from zero to two percent among providers, meaning holidaymakers could be wasting money by spending too much for their foreign currency.
Earlier this year, Sainsbury's Bank urged those planning last-minute trips abroad to ensure that they don't spend too much purchasing travel money.
