27 December 2006 Holidaymakers warned of airport delays
With large numbers of holidaymakers flying in the holiday season, BAA Stansted Airport has advised travellers to expect to have to queue if they plan on flying overseas in the next few days.
The airport reports that it has recruited an additional 300 staff throughout 2006 to deal with security at airports and better advise travellers to get through procedures faster.
Mel Nice, spokesperson for BAA Stansted, said: "Due to the increasing security measures that we have in place at the airport, we expect some queuing times to increase."
She added that the airport was working and taking necessary action in order to reduce queuing times for passengers.
Earlier this year, price comparison company moneysupermarket.com advised holidaymakers concerned about the increased risk of delays, missed flights and cancellations as a result of security alerts to contact their travel provider.
AA Financial services has noted that many travel insurance policies will cover delays of over 12 hours, but again urged people to contact their insurer for clarification of their policy
