27 March 2007 Honeymooners advised 'travel insurance is as important as your suitcase'
Holidaymakers, particularly those heading abroad on their honeymoon with valuable luggage, have been advised that it is as important to purchase travel insurance as it is to remember their luggage.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) reminds Britons that travel insurance covers holidaymakers for medical costs incurred abroad, as well as the cost of stolen or lost baggage, and advised honeymooners to make sure their wedding jewellery is protected.
Graeme Trudgill, manager of technical services at Biba, said: "Travel insurance is as important as your suitcase. Don't go without it, whatever you do."
He added that those heading abroad only with a European Health Insurance Card would not be covered for cancellation in the event of a medical emergency at home or other reasons.
Last year, Sainsbury's Bank reported that 18 per cent of its travel insurance claims dealt with cancellation, while 13 per cent were for lost baggage or documents.
