24 January 2008 Inbound tourism in UK 'to remain static' in 2008
The value of inbound tourism in the UK in 2008 is predicted to be static, while actual numbers will be below those of 2006, it has been predicted.
According to VisitBritain, there will "some" annual growth in visits to the country during the latter half of the year.
Nonetheless, the national tourism agency claims that 2008 offers a "host" of opportunities to improve the inbound tourist market for the country.
"We anticipate the euro exchange rate being an incentive for European travellers to Britain - in particular emerging markets such as Poland and Czech Republic where we are seeing rapid growth," commented Sian Brenchley, a senior press officer with VisitBritain.
She added that Liverpool's role as European Capital of Culture, the opening of the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport and London's position as the host nation for the coming 2012 Olympic Games after the closing ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing later this year are all positive things to build on.
VisitBritain is the national tourism agency that promotes Britain internationally.
