26 March 2008 India is emerging destination for medical tourism
India is an emerging destination for Britons wishing to travel abroad for a spot of surgery, it has been revealed.
According to Post Office, the Asian destination has been named as the top destination for overseas cosmetic and medical surgery.
Post Office reveals that over 70,000 people travelled overseas for cosmetic surgery or elective medical treatments last year.
"It's vital that anyone considering this looks into buying additional specialist cover. This will provide peace of mind should anything go wrong," Helen Warburton, head of Post Office travel services commented.
Other emerging destinations for such surgical travel included Hungary, Turkey, Malaysia and Spain.
Popular overseas treatment for Brits includes breast augmentation, cosmetic dentistry, heart surgery and hip replacements which can cost between 20 and 50 per cent less than private treatment in Britain.
