01 April 2006 Indonesia entices tourists
Officials in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia are hoping to encourage more visitors to invest in and come to see the region, with their new campaign.
The people of Palu city and Donggala regency are hoping to promote the region's Palu Grand Forest Park as a tourist destination and an area for research,.
Hoping to raise the profile of the area and benefit the local economy by appealing to visitors, Rusdy Mastura the mayor of Palu told The Jakarta Post that the park was "ideal for biological, ecological and geological research" and "would make a great destination for tourists".
Established in 1995 by Forestry Ministry decree, the Palu Grand Forest Park covers more than 8,000 hectares, a hundred hectares of which is part of the national reforestation programme.
The city of Palu is a provincial capital located in Palu bay, not far from the port city of Donggala, in an area of great natural beauty in the heart of Central Sulawesi, which is renowned for its mountainous rainforests.
