25 March 2008 Ireland proves popular for Easter breaks
The Emerald Isle proved to be a popular Easter holiday destination this bank holiday weekend, it has been reported.
According to Travel Daily News, figures from Aer Arann show a 14 per cent rise in air passenger bookings from the UK to Ireland over the Easter bank holiday period this year.
From March 22nd to 23rd 2008, customers flying domestically with the airline also rose by seven per cent in comparison to the same period in 2007.
"Ireland is clearly a top holiday break destination and we hope to welcome more people to the Emerald Isle during the spring," Colin Lewis, head of sales and marketing at Aer Arann, commented.
He added that St Patrick's Day also proved to be a "sell out" holiday period for the company.
According to Mr Lewis, the figures are "extremely encouraging" and show great gains in the UK market.
St Patrick's Day takes place annually on March 17th and represents celebrations of Ireland's patron saint.
