14 November 2007 Israel readies for more tourists
Israel's tourism ministry has stated it expects that 200,000 visitors will arrive from Britain over the course of 2008, a 15 per cent increase on this year.
Speaking at the World Travel Market exhibition in London, Tourism Ministry director general Shaul Zemach stated that new Thomsonfly low-cost flights to Tel Aviv would boost consumer choice in travelling to Israel, according to the Jerusalem Post.
However, he confirmed: "The most important goal is to establish a greater demand. If there is a greater demand for flights, we will help the private sector fulfil that demand."
Mr Zemach indicated that hotel availability would be expanded with a focus on introducing more two and three-star hotels.
Transport links would also be improved with an increased availability of maps and routes as well as more street signs in English.
Overall he emphasised that Israel's tourism industry would benefit from an increasing desire by British holidaymakers to travel somewhere different to established holiday destinations.
The World Travel Market is a four-day travel industry event and brings together worldwide buyers and sellers from every sector of the industry.
