16 November 2007 Italy and US 'popular for Christmas flyers'
Destinations in Italy and the US are popular for travellers flying from Stansted Airport during the festive season, a spokesperson has said.
According to the airport representative, many travellers are looking to visit friends and family over the Christmas period, with flights to these countries popular from the south-east airport.
"Dublin, Rome Ciampino, Milan and New York are always very popular," the spokesperson said.
"A large number of passengers using Stansted are travelling to visit friends and family over the Christmas period."
Recent research from Co-op Travel revealed that an estimated 11 per cent more people will be looking to spend the festive season overseas this year, compared with 2006.
Co-op Travel suggested that one draw from the US was the size of Christmas, with an even larger commercial emphasis that can be exciting for children and families travelling to America at this time of year.
According to its website, Stansted is the third busiest airport in the UK, with 23.8 million passengers passing through in a year.
