08 November 2007 Jakarta hosts tourist convention
The Jakarta Tourism Summit is currently taking place in the Indonesian capital with the city's tourist agency hopeful that it will be able to pick up advice from other cities on how to boost the its tourism industry.
Representatives from Bangkok in Thailand, Berlin in Germany, Istanbul in Turkey and Los Angeles in the USA are all attending the convention which runs this week.
In an attempt to revive the city's tourism industry, several local and foreign boards and agencies will contribute their ideas and suggestions, according to the Jakarta Post.
Governor Fauzi Bowo confirmed the importance of tourism for the city and that it was crucial for the capital's revenue and employment opportunities.
"Therefore, we look forward to this summit, in which some of the world's most important cities will share their ideas and experiences," he said.
Jakarta already offers a number of tourist attractions including a puppet museum and the Istana Negara state palace.
