28 December 2007 January 'is a cheap time for travel'
The first month of the year can be a great time in which to travel abroad for holidaymakers who wish to bag a cheap deal, it has been reported.
According to Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), the first weeks of January can be the cheapest time of year in which to travel.
However, she added that as people begin to travel on a more year-round basis, the industry is seeing less "peaks and troughs" as holidaymakers tend to travel all the time.
"If you look in the brochures for January, it's probably one of the cheapest weeks of the year to go on holiday," Ms Tuke commented.
She added: "People can travel when it's a slow time for holidays and really clean up."
A poll of 1,000 employees taken by Lastminute.com earlier this year revealed that that 71 per cent have more than half of their annual holiday entitlement to use before the end of the year, according to travelbite.co.uk.
