25 January 2008 Japan lodging named as top ski hotel
The very best of the new hotels for the 2007-08 ski season have been listed by one UK publication.
According to the Times, Japan is where the "new frontier" for world skiing is, with Rusutsu Resort Hotel taking the top spot on the list.
The publication reports that the resort is "possibly the biggest ski hotel in the world" and offers "phenomenal skiing" in addition to "prime-grade" sushi, which is served in the hotel's restaurants.
"You can sit on the floor sipping sake and eating noodles. One of the big attractions is the prime-grade sushi and you can also try Japanese-style fondue - dipping squid in hot oil," the Times notes.
Summit View in La Plagne, France, The Lodge in Verbier, Switzerland, Carlton Hotel in St Moritz, Switzerland, Chalet Montfort in Austria's St Anton, Dolomit B&B in La Villa, Italy, Fox Hotel in Canada's Banff resort and Westin Monache in Mammoth, US also make the list.
Rusutsu Resort Hotel was recently given the 2008 Best Small Resort Award from the skiing magazine The Great Skiing and Snowboarding Guide.
