28 December 2007 Japan to see "record" tourist numbers in 2008
Next year will be a record 12 months in terms of tourism in Japan, it has been reported.
Japan Today reports that nine million foreign visitors are to travel to the country in 2008, according to the Japan Travel Bureau.
Moreover, these tourists are likely to be drawn to the country by the Group of Eight summit in Hokkaido, taking place from July 7th to 9th 2008 as well as Japan's culture, it has been claimed.
"Along with Japan's chairmanship of the G8, Japan's presence in the news across the world is expected to contribute to the attractiveness of Japan's major cities, starting with Tokyo, along with Hokkaido," the Japan Travel Bureau reported.
According to Japan Today, the number of tourists to Japan will rise by 700,000 next year from the 8.3 million that visited in 2007.
Japan is sometimes referred to as the land of the rising sun because of the characters that make up its name.
